December Note Card Party

 It's time once again for the Note Card Party hosted by Vee.

With our spring-like temperatures here in North Carolina, I think our chances for a White Christmas are slim to none.

But, hey, a girl can dream, can't she? 

 Inside we can pretend the weather outside is frightful

as we sip hot cocoa from our snowman mugs.

 And while there might not be any of the white stuff outside,

inside we've built many snowmen.

If there is snow where you live, please think of me as the snowflakes fly.

Here in the sunny south I'll just be dreaming. 

While our weather may not cooperate with my dreams, I decided to create a set of note cards that would.

Knock Knock ... Fall Calling

Today was the type of day where being inside all day just wasn't an option.  I know because I tried it.  Deeply immersed in the deep cleaning I am presently giving the guest room... which happened as a result of cleaning out the attic... which stemmed from re-organizing all of my kitchen cupboards... well, you get the picture, don't you?  Does this happen at your house too?  Anyhow, this morning I set out to stay in the guest room until it was ALL done.  I started out this morning by opening the windows to let the glorious fall breezes waft in.  As I was cleaning and sorting I couldn't help but notice the crystal clear blue skies and the tree tops with leaves of yellow and orange.   The guest room is on the 2nd floor, so we're in the treetops up there.

 When I took a lunch break from all of the cleaning, Peanut dropped all sort of hints that she could use a walk.  Being the good pet owner that I strive to be, I was pretty much obligated to take a break to walk the dog.  So we headed out for a quick walk to the end of the trail and back.  But, when we got to the end of the trail the blue skies and fresh air beckoned and we didn't want to come back so ... we didn't.  We just kept on walking... enjoying the sights and sounds.

 In a short while we saw our friend, Nancy, out in her yard.

She said she was about to walk her dog and asked us to join her.

Being the good neighbor I strive to be, how could I say no?

We walked and talked for 2 more miles and if we didn't end up at my driveway, I think I'd still be walking.

The autumn season offers so much beauty.

It's time to get out there and enjoy it.

July seemed like a good month to re-visit some of my favorite Summertime Treats. 

~ My Mom's Fresh Peach Pie ~

It wouldn't be summer without a taste of this family favorite.

The filling is cooked over the stove, but the pie doesn't get baked.  It makes for a really fresh peach taste.



~ Red Velvet Cake with Fresh Berries ~

I made this cake for my in-laws 60th anniversary a few years ago.

One word ~ YUM!

~ Freshly Squeezed Lemonade ~

My sister-in-law lent me her vintage juicer one year.

She said to use it in a blog post so I was obligated to make lemonade :-).

~ Fresh From The Garden Mint Chocolate Cookies ~

One of my favorite combinations is chocolate + mint.

I used some of the mint growing in my herb garden in these cookies.  A little dip into the melted chocolate pot and two words this time ~ YUM, YUM!!

In honor of the first day of summer I'm going with a 

Relax and Enjoy the Garden theme. 

Sometimes we get so busy planting, weeding, mowing and watering that we forget to stop and just enjoy the fruits of our labor.
Today you have my permission ;-) to take a break from the work and head out to the garden with a good book.

Sometimes it's nice to just sit and enjoy nature...

the bunnies hopping, the birds busily making homes for their babies, butterflies fluttering, flowers growing, wind chimes chiming ...

Perhaps you'd rather take a dip in the pool.

or sit and enjoy a good conversation with a friend.

Note:  all photos taken at my husband's Aunt Barbara's house.  She was an avid gardener, loved antiques and had a real flair for decorating.  Having raised five boys, her home was always a lively place to be.  Sadly she passed away eight months after these photos were taken.  I'm sure she is tending the gardens in heaven now.
