What's Old is New Again

By the time I finished reading this thrift store book, it had seen better days.

As you can see it is pretty old, but it was a wonderful read.
"A Tree Grows in Brooklyn"
Have you ever read it?

I considered re-thrifting (is that a word) it. I also considered throwing it away. That is until I saw a little decorating article in the local paper. They offered this tip.

Take an inexpensive old book and rip the covers and binding off of it.
Then start folding the pages back until you have . . .

A unique holder for your Christmas cards.
I chose to put a few of my favorite vintage angel cards in there.
They seem to fit in well with the old book feel.

Which also seems to work pretty well with my old vintage Shiny Brites.

  1. That's a darling idea. I love the looks of it. How did you secure the pages once you folded them back?

  3. What a nice idea. It's always fun to find a good book in an antique store, especially if it's reasonably priced. Kim, I love your blog page. It's so pretty and festive. My daughters would love those Christmas tree balls; they call them 'retro'. I just call ours our old decorations! :D One of the things I'm enjoying this season is visiting with all my blog friends on their beautifully decorated blog pages and seeing their homes and decorations and stealing..er, I mean borrowing, their ideas. I believe it has added to my Christmas joy immensely! I think I may blog about that!

  5. Great idea! We used to do that with our old school books. We made different designs like folding diagonally so half was folded and half wasn't, then glued the two ends together to make it stand. I hadn't thought of that in years!

  6. I love this useful and neat looking idea. I can't throw a book away; I'm sure I have several books that wouldn't mind having their pages turned down; I'll try it...thanks.
I love your old vintage balls and the way you've displayed them....

  8. I'm sure you are aware of this, but you sure do have an eye for color. You arrange everything so beautifully, and this post is no exception. Your shiny brights are so pretty! Are they old or new? The card and book idea is so clever. I never thought to do that. Thanks for sharing another wonderful post with us. I really like your banner picture.
