Mrs. Wren started to build a nest in my pansies (see previous post) and then changed her mind. So, no wren nest to report. I can, however, report a black capped chickadee nest in the birdhouse.
I startled the momma yesterday when I peeked in to see what was happening.
Yes, that's yours truly pushing a lawn mower for the first time in 25 years. Brett has developed a problem with foot drop which makes navigating the inclines in our backyard with the lawnmower very difficult. Before making the decision to hire it done, I decided to give it a try. It was such a beautiful day yesterday and I've been trying to lose some weight and get more fit. I found it to be a good challenge. Between the two of us we finished the job. We'll see how I feel about it when the heat and humidity sets in. Could be a different story then.
The clematis has climbed to the top of the trellis and decided to continue growing all through the laurel bushes. The laurels are due for a trim. I guess I'll wait until the clematis is through blooming to give them all a haircut.
Recently we had a fence and stepping stones installed along the side of the house. You may remember me mentioning that this side has a four foot drop off. Since the water spigot is located on this side, we do have to walk along here. We've talked about doing this for years and finally got it done. I'm so happy with the way it turned out and have greater piece of mind now that nobody will be toppling over the edge.
After watching them for awhile I have no doubt that there will soon be a population increase of ladybugs in our area. :D.
I will be happy to lay out the welcome mat as they are such beneficial insects for the garden.
Being outdoors is just the best! Your clematis are gorgeous, as are the azaleas. They did a very nice job on your fence and stepping stones. Nice to have the tripping hazard removed.
ReplyDeleteOoooh! It's looking beautiful around you! I love the flowers, the new fence and stepping stones and the lady bugs. :)
ReplyDeleteGood for you for mowing. I haven't done it in over 30 years... I did it after Bob had his appendix out, and he declined to have me do it again. Apparently, my lines were pretty crooked! (And he used to work for a lawn service so that's not good)
What a lovely post. The stepping stones and new fence look great. I used to like mowing the grass and it was always the job I did all the years we've been married. Since living in the woods now , there is no lawn to mow.
ReplyDeleteAll your blooms are beautiful. Jalene, one of my friends from Needleworks has foot drop.
I hope your husband's foot problem can soon be alleviated.
ReplyDeleteThe lawnmower looks heavy, so well done, mowing the grass.
The clematis is beautiful - so many blooms - and the rest of your garden is blessing you, too.
Ladybug love :) It's been a very long time since I had to push a lawnmower but loved doing it as a kid. That clematis is amazing -- the color and size of the blooms. We've had a couple of sand storms lately so everything has a layer of dust .... again, after just cleaning. :/ Take care.
ReplyDeleteWhoever installed your new fence and stepping stones did a great job. Mrs Chickadee did a great job too. Her nest with 6 tiny eggs is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteSorry your husband has developed the foot problem. Meanwhile you get to mow the lawn :)
Hello! I so enjoyed spending time in your beautiful yard this spring, my friend. Your azalea bush looks exactly like my mom's. Thank you for the memory.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely everything is looking around your place. The fence and stepping stones look great! And those little eggs in the nest are the sweetest things.
ReplyDeleteI help mow the lawn here, too. I love the smell of freshly cut grass.
