The leaves have begun to sport their autumn colors.
Mornings now are quite chilly. The furnace hasn't been turned on yet, although it won't be long I'm sure.
One morning this week I sat out on the patio hoping to see a hummingbird visit the freshly filled feeder.
Never saw a one :(
It seems like only a week ago there were many.
I'll be keeping an eye out, but I fear they have begun their migration.
On that note, have you seen the David Attenborough documentary on hummingbirds? Fascinating!
If that is of interest to you, check it out here.
Our next door neighbors just let us know that they are putting their house up for sale. I will really hate to see them go as they have been such wonderful neighbors. We moved in within weeks of each other and have enjoyed getting to know them. Anyhow, she asked if I might be interested in her Kitchen Aid mixer. I have been on the fence for many years about purchasing one. Two things stopped me...
1). I wasn't sure I would use it enough to warrant the price.
2). (Don't laugh). I could never decide on a color and I was afraid I would wish I had gone with a different choice.
Through the years it just seemed easier to avoid that decision altogether. Ha!
So, now that I don't bake nearly as much as I once did, this beautiful mixer falls into my kitchen.
I know for a fact I would not have picked this brown color even though it is a pretty choice.
When I saw it I instantly thought it needed to be decorated for the fall season. I tucked into a corner and nestled a couple of autumn themed garlands around it.
Once that was done, it was time to test it out.
Fall always puts me in the mood for Soft Ginger Cookies.
Having never used a stand mixer, I consulted the manual and got busy.
I fixed up a plate to take to our neighborhood Mexican Train night.
A small way to share the generosity of this gift.
With the holiday season approaching, I expect to be getting a lot of use out of it. Tell me, do you use a stand mixer? If so, what are your favorite things to make with it. I'm thinking it could really come in handy for mashed potatoes.
Wishing a very Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian readers.
I imagine your kitchens will be seeing a lot of action in the coming days.
I don't have my big mixer any more. It was too heavy for me to lift and I didn't want it to be permanently on the counter. I don't do that much mixing any more anyway.
ReplyDeleteYour brown mixer is perfect for Fall and no doubt you'll find ways to decorate it for other seasons.
Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes.
We've been having our furnace on. It's been in the low 30's here in the morning.
ReplyDeleteYour new mixer is just like mine except mine is black. I use it a lot - cookies, bars, frosting, cake, anything that needs to be beaten like cream cheese. I don't do mashed potatoes with it though - I prefer to use my hand masher as I feel the mixer makes them too runny.
Your cookies look so good!
Autumn is creeping in here, too. We turned on our gas fireplaces that heat the house. They run in the early morning and then not very much.
ReplyDeleteI have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer and use it for many things - cookies and cakes, and breads. Like Mari above said, anything that needs to be creamed or beaten. I don't use it for vegetable mashing.
Ginger cookies are perfect for this season. Yum.
What a nice gift from your neighbour. Your cookies look so tempting and delicious.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cozy post — the mix of autumn colors, baking scents, and neighborly kindness feels so heartwarming. 🍂 I love how you turned the mixer into a bit of fall décor too! Those ginger cookies sound delicious — perfect for this season. I will try your recipe!!!!
ReplyDeleteOur heat has come on a few times already.
ReplyDeleteI have a Sunbeam stand mixer and it is RED. I used to have it in the pantry and didn't use it all that much but now that I have it on the counter use it all the time. I do a lot of baking for the kids at church so it comes in very handy.
For some reason I don't use it for mashing potatoes, I use a hand masher.
It's also makes kneading dough super easy.
Oh, I absolutely love my Kitchenaid mixer! My grandma gave it to her daughter (my aunt) about 35 years ago and my aunt didn't want it! So my aunt gave it to me. And I have been using it ever since. The only thing I've ever had to replace on it was the beater. Mine is red. I've never used it for mashed potatoes only because I prefer to hand mash potatoes, not "whip" them. (I think they turn out too pasty when whipped, but I know it's a personal texture preference.) Hope you have fun with your new mixer!
ReplyDeleteHello! Thank you for sharing the recipe. Ginger cookies remind me of my mother. She loved them so! Enjoy your mixer! It is pretty!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely gift! I have often thought I would love one of these mixers but could never justify the cost. To be gifted one...well, such a treat! And I would definitely choose that color! I think your baking could pick back up soon:) Cookies were definitely a good first choice:)
