Rain, Rain . . . Please Stay

Today was the first day of school in my neighborhood. My "kids" are in college now so I no longer have that busy morning that the first day of school always brings. I used to always take a picture of my boys on the front porch in their new school clothes and then once they were gone to school, I would enjoy a cup of coffee.

Well, I still enjoyed my cup of coffee, but then I was off to do some errands. When I returned I was eating lunch and looked out the window to see this.

Oh, what a beautiful sight!!
Some of you may wonder about me for saying that, but with the drought we have been in this summer and last nothing could be more welcome. Since we are under water restrictions it is hard to keep a lot of my flowers going. There is absolutely nothing like a watering by Mother Nature herself to make the grass green and the flowers perky.

The thunder was rolling across the sky for most of the afternoon and the drops kept on comin' down. Hallelujah!!
I guess I won't be sitting in this chair today, but that's okay because there's plenty to do indoors.

Rainy days are the best for lighting a cozy candle. They give off a little glow that helps to chase the gloomies away. I enjoy burning candles to match the seasons. This is a watermelon scent I picked up when we were in Gatlinburg earlier this summer. Soon it will be time to replace it with one of my Fall scents.

I whiled away the hours today washing my sheets, ironing and trying to get some things put away & straightened up.

Soon it was time to think about dinner. I saw this recipe on the
Mennonite Girls Can Cook blog. If you have never visited them and enjoy cooking blogs I would recommend that you head right over there. Boy, I would agree . . . those girls sure can cook.

This looks like a tasty way to finish up a cozy day.

  1. Yay for cozy days! The rain is really coming down right now here in AZ too. We are here getting our college daughter all settled in and we are staying in our motorhome. I love hearing the sound of rain hitting the roof of the motorhome. Very cozy!

Your yard looks beautifully manicured...so pretty and inviting!

I'll have to check out the recipe website you suggested. Your dinner looks delish!

  3. Kim,
Rainy days in Kuala Lumpur means flash flood and the newly constructed SMART Tunnel that costs a few millions (Malaysian Ringgit = MR) helped to save the City Center from such floods.

In our bungalow, it means roof leaking on the staircase landing because the torrential fall might have moved the neatly placed roofing tiles a little out of place.

Though reported, but no contractors came yet. So, since last Friday, we have three such wet floors there. Towels, pails and mops came to our rescue.

The garden and potted plants were joyously happy because of its abundance. BUT not our clothes...they are not happy at all.

  5. We are also having cozy days...although they are not quite so welcome here! We were hoping for a little more summer weather before fall arrived.

That looks very much like Mexican Potato Casserole...hope you enjoyed it!

  6. Hurray for the rain and a cozy day.

I totally understand that...we've been without a good rain in some time. There's a rumor we'll get a steady bit of rain tomorrow and maybe Friday. My prayer is that it's more than a rumor!

Pretty pics of your yard and your candle!

    Thanks for sharing.

  8. Kim,

Sounds like you had a very productive day.

Your dinner looks delicious. Maybe I can learn to cook that sometime for dinner. Yum! I could serve it on my new Nell Hill plates.

    Happy Tuesday!

  14. I love the rain Kim! Good thing as it rains so much in Holland. :) Right now it does need to go away as the painters were supposed to start this morning and had to cancel again. It is their fourth cancellation and I feel like they are never going to be able to come. We don't want to paint the back of the house ourselves which you can see why on my blog.

Eva Cassidy died very young and her music became popular after her death when a BBC radio station discovered her record and started playing it. I think she has an angelic voice. Isn't Autumn Leaves just beautiful? I can listen to it over and over and over...
