My Life is Becoming a Soap Opera

While I would love to be showing you pictures of my home all decorated for fall or sharing my recipe for caramel apple cake or even taking pictures of the garden in early fall, life has other plans for me.

In my last post I was feeling good about getting through the stressful time with my Mom. I really appreciated your helpful comments. I even printed them off and cut them out to keep at hand in case stress hit again.

Good thing I did.

I have since had a first hand look at how life can change drastically in an instant.

Last Friday my husband got on an airplane to return home from his business trip in Miami. He was perfectly healthy and felt fine. He fell asleep for part of the flight. Woke up with a stomache which got worse as the day wore on. By 8:00 I decided he needed to go to the ER. He was writhing in pain the whole way. He has been in intensive care since then. The diagnosis is pancreatitis. Most people I tell about this have never heard of it. But those that have say it is extremely painful. So far they have not been able to determine what caused it. He is hooked up to all sorts of tubes and on morphine. It is so sad to see him like this. In our 27 years of marriage he has barely had more than a cold or the flu.

So now, we wait and we pray and we do everything we know how to aid in his healing process. Yes, it would be nice to be assembling fall themed blogs. . . but that will have to wait.

  6. You sweet girl, take care of yourself and your man at his time.
Thank Goodness your mom is taken care of right now so you can concestrate on your hubby. My daughter in law's mom suffers with pancreatitis quite a bit and she is in bed on morphine several times a month when a new attack happens. She started several years ago is one of the FEW that still has attacks. When the attack is over she lives a very normal life, which includes lots of travel both domestic and foreign...
So there is life after these painful attacks.
God bless you and your family. Just do what is necessary and important right now.

  7. So sorry to hear about your husband and hope he is better soon. My prayers are with you and your family.
My Dad had that when I was a kid and I remember him being in a lot of pain. One of the few times I've seen him cry. He recovered and was just fine.

  19. Kim,

I just found you blog and wanted to tell you how much I enjoy it. I am sorry your husband has to go through this and know how difficult it is as two of my friends had pancreatitis (no fun). Thank you for sharing your life with us. I know how stressful and trying times are for you as my mom had Alzheimer's too. You are not alone and please don't be afraid to ask for help. Take a deep breath, count to ten and ask God to help you through this difficult time. Enjoy every minute with your mom as they pass all too quickly. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Hugs,

    Karol
