When I got in my car to head home from work today the outside temperature was 48 degrees. Quite a change from our low 80s yesterday. As I drove home contemplating what to have for dinner, the windshield wipers seemed to be trying to decide whether to be on or off as the drizzle kept trying to obscure my view. I, on the other hand, was trying to remember how to make the heat come on after all these months of A/C at full blast :).
I think a day like this calls for a nice big pot of soup for dinner. Luckily I made one of those a few days ago and still had plenty left. It would be just the thing to chase the chill away.
Once home, the house seemed dark and gloomy. So, as long as I didn't have to spend a lot of time on dinner, I decided to see about warming up the table. My flowers are currently putting on quite a late season show. I went out and picked a few dahlias, swamp sunflowers and several different colored mums. I cut the stems very short, filled a low bowl with water, added the flowers and one floating candle to the bowl and ended up with a quick centerpiece to brighten the table on this gloomy day.
Soup and simple centerpieces ...
my recommendation for warming up a damp, dreary day.

Perfect way to take away the chill, soup, candles, flowers. Beautiful! xo
ReplyDeleteA delightful way to warm up the day. I had to laugh at your fiddling with the heater vs. the AC. It just happened to us this morning. Is the entire East Coast on the same weather pattern? Anyway, John was sputtering about driving around in a pneumoniamobile...it took me a few minutes. And I made soup today also. And I cut flowers from the garden. This is where all similarities end as my flowers are sitting in a Tupperware pitcher. I'll try to take a cue from you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for "warming" up a chilly day. With the shorter days and cooler days - a little touch of candles and flowers can keep our spirits lifted. Very nice.

ReplyDeleteI love this idea of the candles and flowers! I think we may have soup for dinner today too. here is Arizona it is cloudy and overcast. We had a little rain this morning, but this afternoon it is very warm...still up in the 90s. I am sure longing for cooler weather. Enjoy the rest of your week!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, for appreciating my lit up Halloween vignettes! :-)
ReplyDeleteYour quick centerpiece is lovely. And it certainly went-with-soup.
I think I have all Gladys Taber books, other than the ones on dogs/kitty. They are my only "collection."
My husband and I both, have such lovely memories of looking through Cape Cod old book stores, looking for them... Over the years. :-)
