A Restful Day

Well, another Easter has come and gone. I hope you all had a wonderful day. We had a great Easter from start to finish. The weather was sunny and close to 70 degrees. So after church, a visit to see my mom and getting the dinner in the oven we were able to play a few games of Bocce Ball and Jarts. The boy cousins enjoyed tossing around the Nerf football and we all enjoyed being outside with the sunshine, blue skies and fresh air.
When I went down to the mailbox today I was greeted by the first bloom on my clematis.

I always love the day after hosting a holiday gathering. After all the work that goes into preparing the meal, cleaning the house, etc. it is such a great feeling to wake up to a clean house and a refrigerator full of leftovers. This year we had a lot of food and I was able to send everyone home with care packages including a few college age kids who were thrilled to receive it. So now today I tossed the tablecloth and napkins into the washer, put the ham bone and some split peas on the stove to simmer it's way to a delicious split pea soup and I'm grabbing my book, my puppy and a cup of tea. It was a lot of work to host Easter, but today I get to relax and reflect. Oh yes. . . and I get to work on finishing up those leftover cupcakes :-) We wouldn't want to be wasteful now, would we?

  1. I know the feeling...the post-hosting-the-holiday-feast feeling! I have a refrigerator full of leftovers as well...but can't really identify with the clean house just yet (it still needs a little work). But I'm off to go for a walk with a friend.

What is Jarts? We play Bocce Ball...but I haven't heard of Jarts.

It sounds like you had a lovely Easter.

  2. Sounds like you had a splendid Easter. Split pea soup with cupcakes for dessert is my kind of after party meal....although I don't think I could wait until dinner for the cupcakes!

    Sweet wishes,

  4. It sounds like your Easter was lots of fun and I totally agree with you about the day after hosting a get-together; it's so comforting to poke your head in the fridge the day after and enjoy some leftovers. Yum.

  7. I can relate to your after Easter thought process. It is always a lot of work, but I do treasure all of the memories. It was a great idea to send food home with the college students. It seems like they are always thrilled with gifts of food. I look forward to the Clematis blooming, although it is much too cool here for that to happen. I appreciate you taking it upon yourself to take care of all those cupcakes. Oh, the sacrifices we make as mothers.

You are a wonderful lady...a great friend...your inner and outer beauty shines through...

  13. Hi Kim! Hope that the leftovers have done you well this week. We just finished up the last of them at lunchtime today. I'm glad of that. You know, until you expressed the joy of the day after, I had never thought of it that way, but you are so right. A clean house and a loaded fridge are not to be scoffed at.

Glad that you had a wonderful Easter and such a nice spring day, too.
