~ Preparing for Picnic Time ~

It won't be long now until Picnic Time will be in full swing.  That fun time when meals become a bit more casual and relaxed.  I think there's nothing like a cute picnic basket to set the tone for a tasty meal served picnic-style.  With that thought in mind I headed to the attic to take stock of my picnic basket situation.

Oh my, these old ratty things will never do.  Somehow I don't think they will set the tone I am after for a lovely picnic like this:

Hmmm ...  I guess I have no other choice.  As much as I really don't want to ...

Spray paint to the rescue :-).  I feel so much better now.  Let the picnics begin!!

While I'm waiting for that first picnic of the season, these blue and yellow whitewashed picnic baskets are the perfect place to display a vintage tea towel and . . .

a couple of yellow tulips in a vintage little creamer.

Thank you for bearing with me as my fun with spray paint continues.  The novelty is bound to wear off soon, isn't it???

  1. Beautiful job! How inspiring to see how you use spray paint. Starts me looking around my house!

  2. Picnics! We don't have enough of those anymore, do we? Kim, you're a genius! I'm always seeing those picnic baskets in antique and second-hand shops. They often look dowdy-now I know how to restore them to a usable condition. Spray paint? OK! My family used to love picnics.
I like the Jane Austin movies and we get a laugh out of their picnics; the servants in the background have to carry everything in wooden crates, boxes and baskets. They had no plastic storage containers, foil, portable grills or coolers, let alone ice! And it took several wagons to get it all there. The gentry rarely noticed all the trouble they caused. We have it pretty easy nowadays!

  3. How adorable. All of it! I haven't been on a picnic is so very long! No nice parks around or even a country side to drive through... but it's fun to look at your things.. :) Thanks for sharing them.

  4. So pretty. Great idea for old baskets. Would of never thought of it. But I'm not crafty.

  5. What a difference a little spray paint makes. Nice Job!! We have a very nice English style picnic basket. I'm looking forward to walking over by the lake for a nice picnic one of these days with Ken. :-)

  6. They look wonderful and, no, I don't think the novelty has worn off yet for you! There's gonna be more and more because the spray paint bug has bitten. I just didn't realize that it comes in such great colors.

  7. Cute idea to spray paint the picnic baskets! Did you spray them white first and then the color? Or did the color do that good a job of covering the dark stain?

  8. I love your so sweet! I love the pictures! Your picnic baskets are so pretty all freshly painted. I think it is time to make plans for a picnic! How fun! Sweet blessings!

  9. The picnic baskets look lovely in their new spring colors!
    I love the little vase!

  10. Love your spray painted picnic baskets. So cute!! I love to go on a picnic. Such great summertime fun! Love & blessings from NC!

  11. I hope the novelty never wears off. You are amazing! What a quick and beautiful transformation. And your vintage touches make it all look like a magazine presentation. I really like this look! Picnics are a favorite of our family, and this makes me look forward to them even more.

  12. Continue with the spray paint. I love looking at your artistry.... the pictures are so sweet, and the baskets look great.
A picnic sounds like fun..... can't remember the last time we had a picnic.....tooo long.

  13. Perfection! I love the colors! I should have bought that picnic basket for $5 at the antique mall today. Although I already have a couple. Still, should have grabbed it!

  14. Kim, those baskets turned out beautiful!! I love them blue and yellow!

  15. I really love your basket transformations! So much more bright and cheery and picnic-y!
    Have a great weekend!

  16. Okay! I'm ready...want me to bring the sandwiches or dessert!

  17. What a great idea to have a picnic! Your baskets are really beautiful. *Smiles*

  18. Such a happy post. I LOVE picnics!!!

  19. You are a great 'spray can' artist! Would you like to come work some magic out my way?

You have me longing for a good old-fashioned picnic!

  20. I love your picnic baskets painted those pale colors. I'm going to have to search some flea markets and 2nd hand shops to find some. You've inspired me.

    Hugs, Gretchen

  21. Hi, Kim -
I came here from Daisy Cottage - and I'm SO glad I did! I've enjoying browsing through your blog for a while this morning and I love what I see. Your photos are great, your home inspires me and I feel a connection with your blue and yellow kitchen! Mine is the same. I will definitely be back. Thank you for 'giving me permission' to paint my old picnic basket. It will be yellow before the week is finished!
