~ Anticipation ~

The buds on my hydrangea plants are telling me that it won't be much longer before they are blooming.  I can hardly wait.  I think they are one of the most gorgeous flowers and every year I eagerly anticipate their arrival.

Yesterday I cleaned and sharpened my pruners so when the time comes I'll be ready to cut some to bring in the house.

In the meantime a bit of hydrangea decor was added to the family room.  While running errands the other day I decided to take a quick lunch break at Cracker Barrel.  Well, I don't think it's possible to eat there without checking out the little store, is it?  On this day I was so glad I did.  These hydrangea topiaries were in the clearance section ... in the far corner ... waaaay up on the top shelf.  I almost missed them.  Happily, I spotted them and a nice tall man brought them down for me.  I think they were just the thing that was needed to flank the hydrangea picture that has been hanging up there for many years.

I shopped the attic to find some coordinating accessories.

It's been raining all day today, but that's okay with me.  I'm hoping that after a good soaking those hydrangeas will be ready to bloom even sooner.

  1. I'm always amazed at the way you decorate according to season; you even have enough ornaments for a hydrangea theme!
Hope you see the real flowers soon!

  9. I smiled as I read this. I have done the same thing, had lunch at a Cracker Barrel and then discovered a treasure on the clearance shelf, although I often have to go looking for someone to reach up and get it for me. Your topiaries are perfect! What a find to complete the look of your beautiful mantel. Blue hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers, and you display them in such an artistic way. I really like the wooden painted sign. I can't wait to see the bouquets of those from your garden.

  17. I'm another hydrangea lover! My hydrangeas got an early start this year with our warm temps back in February...but then had a touch of frost. I'm hoping they thrive...and still bloom...since they are my favorite.
