Sunny Touches On A Rainy Day

It's been a rainy weekend.
Went to bed last night to the sound of rain on the rooftop.
Woke up this morning to more rain on the rooftop.

While I'm loving this rain for the benefits it brings to the garden, it is making it a bit dark & dreary inside the house.

Since the sun doesn't want to shine outside, I'm going to do what I can to make it shine inside.  I'll start by lighting some little lamps here and there. A yellow candle with a lemon scent will surely add to the sunny atmosphere I'm trying to create.

As my brownies are baking in the oven and my chicken dinner is bubbling away in the crock pot, I have a few minutes to set out a few touches of Spring cheer.  The sunny yellow forsythia wreath adds a bright spot to a corner of the family room on this gray day.

Cheery dishes and a yellow candleholder seem like a good idea for the dinner table tonight.  In fact I think I'll step outside and snip a few pansies.  Be right back . . .

When I began this post I wasn't planning to literally bring the sun in, but a funny thing happened when I brought the pansies in.  The sun came pouring through the window and it hasn't quit since.

Happy Sunny Sunday!!
If the sun isn't shining at your house, try making your own.  You never know it just might work.

  4. Yes, it's been raining here, too. Still is. Another four inches overnight. Must get out my rowboat.

Love the spring touches that you brought to your lovely home in just a blink of an eye. That little bird house certainly does remind me of the "other" Kim's place.

And what a good girl to be making chicken and brownies and yummy things to eat when comfort is so important.

  5. I even enjoyed the sunshine you brought in with your lovely things and your skill to display them. I brought boxes down from the attic today and began unloading some Spring things. At the store yesterday I heard some lady complaining that "Easter was coming way too late this year!" I'm' not sure when she thought it should come, but I'm happy to have more time to look forward to it and prepare my heart for it. The weather may even be warm here by then. You can't please everyone I guess.:D

  6. Kim, your home is so inviting, I love the colors you have used.they are just so refreshing. Since visiting you I have just fell in love with blue and yellow together. I have yellow in my sun room and foyer, but not a lot of blue, and have been thinking of incorporating more in my home. Thanks for the inspiration.

  13. Can't think of a prettier way to add sunshine and a cheery feel to my overcast Monday. Your yellow and blue kitchen and hallway is beautiful! The yellow lemon scented candle has to be the perfect way to complete the ambience of it all.

  15. Not much sunshine in this week's forecast over here...so we have to create our own as well! I think I might need to borrow a little of your cheery yellow.

  16. We had quite a bit of rain last week and more is on it's way tomorrow. We have had sunny days in between that has made the pansies grow and trees bloom.
Your vignettes are so pretty and your house looks warm and welcoming.
