As The Rain Fell Softly

As the rain was falling softly this morning, I scampered around my yard like a little squirrel collecting acorns and flowers.

Roses for the living room.

Hydrangeas for the center of the kitchen table.

Mums for the family room.

Along with the mums I brought in a few sprigs of Nandina berries.
Love the pretty fall hues they are taking on now that the weather has cooled down.

I left plenty of them for the birds though because ...

I strive to be a good neighbor to the birds.

When the shelf had been dressed for fall, I went back outside for one last time.

It seems one of my rather ornate vases was in need of something simple to fill it.

And since my American Beautyberry bush has gotten rather large huge, I knew it wouldn't mind letting me have a few sprigs.  Being the good bird neighbor I am striving to be, I left plenty for my feathered friends.

As you can see the purple berries will go nicely with the ornate vase.  I spotted this vase in a consignment shop one day and was intrigued by the way three vases were joined together.  As I was trying to decide whether all of the "ornateness" was a bit gaudy, I spotted this ...

A sweet little cherub waving and now she appears to have a purple topiary at her side :D.  So now the time has come for me to join her in waving goodbye to you.

I need to accomplish a few things before I take my book and a cup of tea (Constant Comment) into the living room to do a bit of reading.  So glad I went scavenging this morning as the reading room will be so much more cheerful with the roses and beautyberries adding their brightness as the rain continues to fall.

Wherever you are and whatever you're doing today, I wish you beauty and bright spots along the way.

  1. You have so many beautiful plants to bring indoors to enjoy! Everything looks wonderful at your place.
It's rainy a little here. Not much to speak of yet.

  2. You have certainly added some lovely touches. I can match you on the acorns, but that's where any similarities would end. Love all that you have to work with in dishes and shelves and plants!

  3. Kim
I hope you didn't grow a bushy tail! Your flowers and berries are beautiful, but I love all the little vases you have around your home to place them in.
    Especially Mr. Squirrel!

  4. Kim, I had to laugh; I've watched the squirrels run around the yard all day burying acorns (that I'll end up just as busy keeping oaks pulled next summer!) and I pictured you running around your yard collected your foliage. Such beautiful flowers! You have one of the nicest collection of 'schtuff' I've ever seen! I'd enjoy seasonal change just to see your decor! Thanks!

  5. Hi Kim...such pretty pictures! As we were sitting on our front porch a little while ago...my hubby pointed out tucked away in the corner was a large walnut. I am sure the little squirrel thinks that he had hidden it very well...but my hubby with his "eagle" eye found it! Kind of went along with your collectiong acorns in your yard...like a little squirrel! How fun! Hugs ♥ Teri

  6. Your garden must be simply beautiful! Love all the wonderful flowers you have were able to bring indoors! So glad you enjoyed your rainy day with a good book. It has been raining here most of the day! Too bad I had to work!!!

  7. The Beautyberry is so pretty! We were surprised to see some at Jekyll Island! Love that little mouse feeding the birds, too! You have so many pretty things! I bought a little bag of those glass...or plastic acorns at Michael's this week! Didn't you show those on your blog last year? I just HAD to have some! ♥

  8. Beautiful touches you have Kim, I always look forward to you sharing your beautiful home, and all the special touches you add, You are truly gifted. Thank you for sharing.

  9. Totally amazing...love the acorn dish because I love acorns..the pretty plate, the beautiful berries..so amazing! :D

Sounds like a peaceful fall day in your neighborhood.

  11. You have really added nice touches to your pretty home! Everything looks so lovely. I love to curl up with a good book when it's raining, too. Enjoy the rest of your week!

  12. I love your little green squirrel planter filled with acorns!! And I have never heard of an American Beauty Berry bush before. It's so pretty! Those purple berries are gorgeous!

  13. You have so many sweet delights in your home, Kim! The flowers accentuated them beautifully.

  14. Those acorns are little works of art, courtesy of Mother Nature. I planted Beautyberry, but the drought here killed it.

  15. You truly deserve a cup of Constant Comment and a good book, after all the beauty you created. How do you do it? Just amazes me how gifted and artistic you are. Lucky me, I get to visit your blog for free. Thanks for adding inspiration to my day. I don't think I could ever get my acorns to look so good:)

  16. Oh how beautiful your shelf is with all the outside beauty! I wish I had some of that to bring in...but I enjoyed seeing yours.

  17. Oh my goodness glory Miss Kim, you gather so well. I adore your beautiful fall flower pictures.

I confess I have an illness. I've lovingly named it OCFD (Obsessive Compulsive Flower Disorder) Yep, Hubs has moved fences three times to accommodate my illness. Heeehehhee!

From the happy hills and hollers of the Missouri Ponderosa, ya'll have a most blessed and beautiful day! :o)

  18. Hi Kim
