Halloween Happenings Around Here

Greetings Gals (& guys ... if there are any who happen to be reading).
I'm sitting here tonight in my kitchen smelling the scents of Cinnamon-Sugar Roasted Pumpkin Seeds wafting through the air.  Outside the rain is falling and the temperature has dropped significantly, but inside it is warm and cozy.  Brett is busy carving the pumpkin.

I hate to admit this, but last year we did something that I always thought I would never, ever do ...
I thought it was something only old people or mean witches did ...

For the first time ever we shut the lights out on Halloween and ...
left the house to go out for dinner.  Since our kids were grown it didn't seem quite as fun or necessary to be here to pass out candy, but at the same time I kind of didn't like it.

So, this year the lights will be on, the jack-o-lantern will be carved, the candy bowl will be filled to the brim and we will be happily passing out candy to each and every little trick or treater who happens to stop by.

I've invited some neighbors and fellow empty-nesters to join us for chili, cornbread, salad and apple cake.  It will be fun to catch up with them as we pass out the candy.

Tomorrow we'll be outside stringing pumpkin lights from the arbor, hanging pumpkin lanterns on shepherd's hooks and bringing the jack-o-lantern outside to keep us company.  Around here the kids trick or treat on the trail that runs behind our house.  It's supposed to be COLD on Halloween night.  Perhaps I'll warm up some spiced cider to keep us toasty out there.

Happy Halloween!!!

  1. Last year we handed out candy to the neighbor children for a couple of hours, and then when the trick or treat traffic dwindled down, we headed out for a late dinner.
I thought that arrangement worked out perfectly.

  3. Did you see the movie 'Christmas with the Kranks?' Your last Halloween kind of reminds me of it!

  4. I love the big Fall leaf face on the side bar! I didn't even decorate last year but this year I am excited for it. I really do love the little ones coming..our problem is that we are on the outside of town and don't get very many! Have a good one! ;D

  5. Hi Kim, sounds like a great plan for Halloween, gathering with friends and still being able to provide treats for the kiddos who will be out and about. Fall sure is looking beautiful in your neck of the woods. Today was loving this morning but by early afternoon, a dust storm had moved in and it is quite dark now. You would think it would be cool by the looks of things but it's 88, humid and dusty. :/ Hope you are having a super Saturday. Tammy

  10. You'll have fun answering the door for the trick-or-treaters! It's always cold on Halloween night so sometimes we don't have very many. Chili is a great idea for dinner!

  11. You are the kind of neighbor that every little child would love to have in their neighborhood. What fun to have other friends over to help celebrate the evening. You made it sound like so much fun that if I lived closer I would stop by just to see your decorations and see what candy you were giving out:), and smell the cinnamon pumpkins seeds.

Your new banner is just beautiful!
