I'm just dreaming today...

... or even here.
But since it is supposed to rain all day, I'm pulling out my gardening books, my pad of paper and pen and dreaming of ways to improve my own garden this year. As I do this my husband is outside installing the new raised bed he constructed for our small organic vegetable garden. The previous one fell apart. Once the rain stops I will be planting seeds ... lettuce, carrots, radishes & peas.
I'm making a list of new plants I'd like to try, like this one which is a lacecap hydrangea called "Quick Fire". When I attended the Salisbury, NC garden walk last spring, I asked one of the gardeners if she could only keep one plant out of all of the beautiful ones in her garden, which would it be. "Quick Fire" was her instant reply. She said it was beautiful in all seasons.
We are also looking into a retractable awning for our back patio. It gets full, blaring, scorching, drenched with humidity in the summer sun all day long. I know that sounds like a bit of an exaggeration, but trust me ... it's not. We've lived here 12 years now. I'm not sure why it's taken this long to learn about retractable awnings. Later this week we have 2 different sales reps coming to tell us all about them. I can hardly wait to be able to sit on the patio with a glass of iced tea in the shade.
It's still a bit early here for serious gardening, but it's a great time to dream, plan & anticipate the beauty and joy of the upcoming seasons.
What are you dreaming about?
Are you making plans for your garden, home improvements, etc?
I'd love to hear them.
Have a Happy Sunday and a Wonderful Week.

The awning sounds like the perfect solution...
ReplyDeleteThat was a great question you asked the gardener. I hope that I can remember to ask it myself.
I have been dreaming too and buying. Saw some plants on QVC and just had to buy them.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty garden. We have a nice one about 25 mile from where I live called Descanso Gardens.
ReplyDeleteI will be interested in hearing about your awning. I've been thinking about one for our deck. Right now just use a big umbrella.
ReplyDeleteWe here at my house are dreaming warmer weather so we can get started on that little cabin in the woods.
Won't be long now before you will be sitting out in you garden again. : )
I liked your dream, felt like I was dreaming too! It's so cold here today..I think I will go take a nap and dream! ;D
ReplyDeleteMore flowering plants in your garden, new awnings to keep you cooler, and then time to sit and enjoy a cold glass of iced tea...sounds like the perfect recipe for many relaxing moments. I look forward to seeing what new plants you choose and then how beautifully you share them with all of us. For me, it continues to be cold here and plantings are not on my list of to-do right now. But, like you I like to dream.
ReplyDeleteThanks for adding inspiration to my Sunday.

Hi Kim!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for gardening. I wanted to buy seeds today, but I guess it's too early even for just buying.
I'm glad you don't have to wait as long as I do.
Mother's Day. That's when I'll plant.
Kim
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you don't have as long to wait for preparing your garden as I do! Lucky lady!
I hope you find the perfect awning, so you can enjoy being out
of doors.
Yes, we are dreaming of our garden also! And we had the same problem with the sun on our back deck that we finally spent the money 5 years ago and had a roof constructed and now it's our back porch. We looked into the awnings but we have tremendous wind where we live and knew the wind would eventually destroy the awning. I hope it works for you and you can enjoy your tea!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots of that lovely garden.
ReplyDeleteWe installed a retractable awning many years ago - wonderful!
The retractable awning is awesome. Friends of ours have one and they love it.
ReplyDeleteJust stopped over from Brenda's Cozy Little House blog. I was hooked as soon as I read about your dreaming of gardening. I live for gardening, but being in the northeast I have a little bit to wait yet. We put in a couple of raised beds last year...I can't wait to start planting tomatoes, peppers and lots of herbs. The retractable awning sounds like a perfect solution...we get a lot of sun in our backyard, maybe we'll try that!
ReplyDeleteI'm seeing flowers on many blogs today...and beginning to dream myself! I'm looking forward to gardening again soon...just around the corner.
ReplyDeleteI will be interested in hearing what you end up with awning-wise. I've been thinking for a few years now that is what we need out back. It is so hot in the mornings that it's impossible to sit on the patio for long in the summer time. Your photos are lovely, that gazebo is to die for!
