Thoughts on Blogging

~ October Beauty ~

Just a few of my thoughts on blogging tonight.
Hmmm, not really sure where to start on this one.
It's kind of been rattling around in my thoughts for awhile not quite knowing how to present itself.

When I jumped into the blog world in 2008 I never imagined that I would still be at it five years later.  If you knew me in person you'd most likely know me as "the quiet one."
As the years have gone by it's been a whole lot of fun to meet so many like-minded individuals and along the way share a few of the things that make me tick.

In these five years I have received inspiration in so many different forms... from all of you and the things you share on your blogs.
I know my life has become richer as a result.

I appreciate the comments you have left for me throughout the years... more than you may ever know.

Now for the hard part...
It seems as though I've shared all there is to share.
Things don't change around here that much from year to year and often I find I'm no longer inclined to feel the need to take my camera with me at all times.
All this to say I have decided to quietly close the door of my happy home.
I will still be stopping by to visit with all of you.
You can't get rid of me that easily ;-).

As promised I will be doing a post on the Butchart Gardens.
It seems a fitting place to leave off ... in a beautiful garden.  One of my personal favorite places to be.

With Love
 &
Appreciation,

  1. Kim, I'm so glad I got to know you. You have always been so gracious inviting us into your beautiful home. I am sorry you are closing. I do understand and want you to know that I am always just an email away! Please stay in touch! Love to you, Twyla

  2. Oh Kim, I'm so sorry to read this -- it makes me sad. I think I understand your feelings, as five years is a long time to do this. Who knows where any of us will be five years from now. I have enjoyed getting acquainted with you through blogging, my North Carolina neighbor. :) Wouldn't it be nice if some of us could meet in person one day? There are several of us here in N.C. who blog regularly.

Speaking for myself (and several others I'm sure) you will be missed Kim! Are you going to take your blog down altogether? Please feel free to e-mail me anytime, okay?

    Hugs to you,

    Denise at Forest Manor

  4. This made me so sad, especially since you have the new grandbaby, and such a lovely home and garden, and you do nice traveling, and you have the boat, and you live in a beautiful state, I could go on. I get so angry at the pressure put out there that makes us feel inadequate or boring, or whatever adjective you want to fill in. You will be so missed. It seems like more and more folks are giving it up. I am in the same boat, imagine me, alone, in a small place with no property, no crafting skills and most of the time just enough energy to sit at the computer. But something always pulls me back. I will not let the high octanes influence me. I may get a little motivated by their posts and they pull me back for more, but I will do it my way. Just so sad to read this. I always enjoyed my visits here. (((hugs))) xo

  6. It's always been a pleasure visiting your lovely blog, Kim. You will be missed. Thank you for your visits and comments on my blog. I'm still on a blog break and I don't know when I'll return, there is so much to do and so many things I'm interested in and I know how much time blogging takes away from those other projects/interests. So I fully understand wanting to give it up, especially when you've been doing it for several years. There are so many special people in blogland and you are one of them. I've enjoyed seeing your beautiful home and your lovely flowers and all that you've shared with us here. Enjoy your new life sans blogging but don't forget we're just an email away! Hugs and love, Cheryl

  7. I had to stop by to visit another Happy Home (I'm Happy Homemaker UK). Congratulations on your 5th anniversary - such a milestone! I totally get it with interest waxing and waning - that's the beauty in blogging, isn't it? Writing when we feel inspired :) Wishing you a wonderful day. xoL

  8. No, no, no! Please don't stop! The day-to-day doings are the beauty of Blog Land. Just keep putting along, sharing your joy. Please?

  9. Kim, even though my blogging and reading are more sporadic than they used to be, I will miss your posts. A few months ago I too decided to stop because I no longer felt like I had anything to share. But the thing I didn't count on was how much I'd miss the friends I made. I hope you will leave your blog up and just take some time off. You may, as I did, change your mind. I hope so.

  10. I think we're all getting to where you are. That said, I think it is the familiar that becomes the cherished and I have come to treasure you and your happy home. And, remember this: It is always a woman's prerogative to change her mind!

  11. I hear what you're saying, Kim - it's harder than most people realize to keep the same level of enthusiasm going for five years, and I can certainly understand wanting to take a break (which is what I am choosing to call your change!) Your blog has always been beautiful and inspiring to me, and I've loved visiting your happy home!

I read your post, but don't often comment.
You will be missed, for sure.
I wish you many blessing, dear lady!

  13. Kim...you will be missed. You have always been gracious, hospitable and inspiring. You will not soon be forgotten. I wish you many blessings wherever life's journey takes you. And (just a suggestion)...why not leave the blog open and give us an update once in awhile? Even a Christmas letter would be nice...so we know what is happening in your world. :)

  14. It always saddens me when I hear about a great blogger deciding to stop. You mention things don't change much but what if you could shoot a quick video from your mobile phone and post it in seconds on to your blog. Would that change things up enough to entice you to continue? It seems as thought many enjoy your blog. Maybe shooting videos from your phone is the change needed to re-inspire you?

  15. Oh Kim, I am so sad to hear this news. Your blog is one of my very favorites and we've been friends here for so long. I do understand your wanting to stop blogging though. (I've tried a few times, but can't seem to stay away!) I do hope we can still keep in touch. Someday still, I'd love to meet you in person. Take care my friend, you will surely be missed in blog land!!!!!

  16. We've both been blogging the same amount of time and I've enjoy getting to know you over the years. I sure will miss you and I hope you'll decide to post now and then to let us catch up with your news. Please stay in touch, my friend. But also enjoy some time off. I always think it would help me to step away and then start again fresh. Sweet hugs to you, your buddy, Diane

  17. I'm so sorry to lose you after so recently meeting you! I've enjoyed my visits to your blog and will miss them. I sometimes think that I've said all I've got to say and think about ending my blog too but I know I would miss my blogging friends dearly. Hope you'll keep your blog up and maybe drop in to keep let us know what's going on with you ever once in a while.

  18. Hi Kim, "sigh" I am so sorry to read this, you have always been one of my favorite bloggers, always so gracious, and encouraging. I have so many times thought the same as you, "that I had blogged about all there was to blog about." But haven't had the courage to stop, as I would miss my friends so much,I just don't post very much, and that is not a good thing as one seems to blog even less. ~smile~ Vee once said " that the longer one stays away from blogging the easier it becomes to stay away, I have found this to be so true. Like all the others who commented, I am hoping this is just a break, I will keep watching your blog for new posts.
I leave her very heavy hearted, but with lots of beautiful memories, I have always loved reading of your "happy home", I know that you love beautiful flowers, especially hydrangeas, yellow and blue are some of your favorite colors, and have loved how you incorporated these colors into your beautiful home, I have enjoyed you sharing of your sweet children's books, and of all the beautiful treasures you have found, and your recipes and photos have always been so enticing. I never tire of seeing what you have to share as it is always so refreshing. May I leave by saying "you are a class act" looking forward to talking soon
    .'Love,
    Sue

  21. I know exactly what you mean.
I feel honoured that I've met you and though I haven't been around for ages, I will always remember and appreciate your support when I started blogging and was feeling sad because of having lost my mum.
    Take Care, Kim!

  23. Kim, I am real sad at reading this. I understand more than I can tell you, and have come so close to pushing that final button too. I share this from my heart today, that I am so thankful that blogging brought me into your world. You have no idea as to how much you inspired me, encouraged me, and helped me to see beauty in so many things that I never took the time to notice. Your warm, gracious, creative personality caused me to always be most thankful when I saw that I received a comment from you. I have had less time to comment lately and more times than I can tell you, I have felt like I have had absolutely nothing new to share. So I do understand. But, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, for all I learned from you. I will never forget you! Please stop by my blog anytime, and if you ever get to my part of the country you are always welcomed in my home. You will be so missed!

  24. I'm a recent follower and reader of your blog and will be sorry when no more posts pop up in my reader. But life has its seasons.
I find that I appreciate the everyday blogs more than I once did. We are all living life in our own spheres and I feel like blogging is a figurative way of reaching out, touching hands, and saying, "you are not alone."
Looking forward to the Butchart Garden post!

  25. Kim, I hope you'll change your mind. Blogging has changed so much since some of us started but I think there's still a place for us. It doesn't have to be high pressure or new every time. Just a fun way to share with friends. You are so sweet and I always enjoy your posts. Consider just posting when inspiration strikes. :)

  26. Kim dear, whilst I was away in Europe I missed some blog posts (yours and others) and coming here today, now that I'm home again and trying to catch up, I'm sad to think of you leaving us. You, above all, have been such a sweet and generous lady both in your beautiful posts with glorious pics, and in your kindly comments. Maybe just a monthly post could be managed - something to let us know all is well and life is good.

Personally I'm sad that we haven't got to meet in person yet, especially as we are not that many miles apart. Perhaps we could do that one of these days. You can always reach me by e-mail from my blog. I will be home more now - I think the big expedition travels are over as I need to be here with DH more - so will have more time. Can come your way if you can't get to Raleigh.

Know that I'm thinking of you and understand if you need a blogging break - but still hope you'll change your mind and at least pop up now and then!

Take care - enjoy every day, each one being special and we must always make it our own no matter what.
    Hugs - Mary
