A Library Visit

A library visit was on my to-do list today.
Pulling into the parking lot, I noticed some early spring blooms in the garden area next to the library.

Since I was in no particular hurry, I decided to head over there and take a closer look before going into the library.

The land where the library now sits was donated by a man to honor his wife's memory after she passed away.  She loved to read and garden so, he wanted to honor her with a library and memorial garden in her name.  Apparently he worked in the memorial garden every day until he passed away in his 90s.

Here you see the library in the distance.
All of the sitting areas inside look out over the garden where there are trails to walk on, benches to sit on and many plants to add seasonal beauty.  Here and there are bridges built by local Boy Scout troops

Meandering along the trails I spotted some pretty pink azaleas.

I'm not sure what this is.
It was taller than me and loaded with these fringy flowers.

As someone who also enjoys reading and gardening, I somewhat reluctantly left the garden to tend to the main reason for my visit.
I've been attending a bi-monthly Spice Club meeting and it was time to pick up the next packet.  Each meeting focuses on a different herb/spice.  In April it will be dill.  Our packets contain a sample of dill and several recipes.  We are free to try them out.  When the meeting rolls around we can bring a dish to share, although it is not required.  The gal who runs the meetings loves to cook and brings samples of all of her recipes for us to taste.  It has been a fun way to gain some new inspiration in the kitchen while meeting new people.

It seems no visit to the library is complete without checking out a book or two.
While I'm not familiar with this author, the photo makes me want to be out in the garden planting pretty flowers.

It's still early for that as our frost date isn't until April 15th.
This past week has brought a lot of daffodil bouquets reminding me that it won't be long now.

Do you visit your local library and, if so, what are some of your favorite things about it?

  3. What a lovely tribute for the mans wife and a wonderful garden to walk around in and enjoy.
I'm always in our town library, at LEAST once a week. My book club meets there too. As you know I live in a very small town and it is a pleasure to walk into the library and have the librarians say Hi Karen, I have a book here for you. :) Once I left a pretty magnet book mark in a book and they knew it was mine and gave it to me on my next visit.
There may not be a whole lot of books in our library but they will get any book for you from other libraries.
    I LOVE the library!!!

  4. That Memorial Garden was a labor of love. So precious. Your gatherings sound so enjoyable. What a great premise. Do let us know if you enjoy the book.

  5. What a beautiful library in your area with that garden area next to it! You must be getting some nice weather here and there if there are flowers blooming already. It is still way too cold her in northeast IL. In fact, it's going down to 0 with the wind chill factor tonight. :-( The spring robins are back though, and perennials such as lilies, daffodils and chives are poking their little green heads out of the ground.

  6. First let me say that I'm so glad I found what I can do so I can again comment.
We changed our ways when Covid was the big thing. I requested books which were put on a table OUTSIDE of the library. The return slot is outside so that part was the same. I think we'll get back to actually going inside and browsing now that the furor seems to be past. However, the public library near us is all in one with the senior high so no pretty parks, just sports fields. There's another library in town with a pretty garden. We should go there one day. There's even a little waterfall.

    1. Yay! I'm so happy that you were able to figure it out. It's so frustrating when there are glitches in our blogging routines.

  7. What a beautiful garden to visit while going to the library. Yes, I use our library regularly. I love being able to order books online and pick them when I'm notified. But I continue to browse the shelves, too. The Spice Club sounds like lots of fun, with good information to put to use, too. I only take books out of our library.
