Blueberries and Coneflowers

The blueberry season has arrived in my backyard garden.

I picked a bowlful this afternoon.
We eat them almost daily.
The health benefits are numerous.
They grow well in our region and are easy to pick.
The best kind of local eating. ;D

Once the blueberries were picked, I checked in on the coneflowers.
They are just coming into bloom so I snipped a few.
I added them to the one remaining sprig left from my Mother's Day bouquet.  A cheerful pop of color for the dinner table.
Speaking of dinner, I need to get to work on that now.

Time in a garden is time well spent.

Are you spending time in your garden?

  2. It will be at least a month before we see any Blueberries or Coneflowers. I hope my flowers are as pretty a colour as yours. I had hoped mine would self seed but so far I don't see any babies coming up.
We've had a very wet and cool May so things are late. So far most of the times I've been in the garden I've had to wear a coat :(

  3. I love to grow blueberries, I have 4 bushes each a different variety. You are maybe 2 weeks ahead with ripe blueberries.

  4. Ripe blueberries already - I am envious. I hope ours will ripen, but who knows?

  5. How how wonderful to have blueberries from your yard. None here.
It will be a while yet before my coneflowers bloom. They are just coming up now.

  7. Blueberries and coneflowers! I love them both! We have one wild blueberry bush in our yard but the berries are tiny and the birds usually beat us to them. Guess I will have to count on Food Lion. :)

  8. How wonderful to be able to pick your own blueberries! I eat them all the time, but unfortunately, they're just the ones from the grocery store. And the color of your coneflowers - wow! I have them in my butterfly garden, but just the usual purple ones. And they won't be blooming for quite awhile here yet.

  9. You are so fortunate to have blueberries growing on your backyard! They are my favorite berry and I eat them everyday. Sometimes for breakfast with yogurt, I toss them in my smoothies, and just eat them by the handful. They are so good for you! And what gorgeous coneflowers! I love them and they come in so many colors. Hope you are having a nice weekend! Oh, speaking of blueberries - I've made Smitten Kitchen's Perfect Blueberry Muffin Loaf twice this week and it was a big hit!

  11. Beautiful flowers and berries! Our blueberry bushes are loaded with berries, but it will be a few more weeks before they are ripe. Your coneflowers are so bright and pretty. Enjoy these June days. Is the temperature pleasant, or getting very hot already?
