Flowers on a Cloudy Day

I've got sunshine flowers on a cloudy day and when it's cold outside, I've got the month of May . . .
Well, I guess you'll say
What can make me feel this way?

Oops, please don't mind my singing and I hope the Temptations won't mind me taking liberties with their lyrics :).  It's just that I've been having a little fun this morning and that song just keeps running through my head.

After learning that there was a setting on my camera for cloudy days (who knew), I decided to head for the garden on this cloudy, drizzly day.  My mission was to see if I could take a picture of the magnolias while they were in bloom.  Once I got out there I discovered that there was only one bloom and it was nearing the end of it's prime.

Luckily there are plenty of plump buds getting ready to reveal their exquisite beauty.

The hydrangeas are starting to put on their show.

Some are a little further along . . .

than others.

As the raindrops began to fall, I quickly looked for some more candidates for this cloudy day photo shoot.

Nothing like flowers to brighten up a cloudy day in May.

  1. Well if you don't learn something new every day, you're just not paying attention. I'm going to see if my camera has a "cloudy day" setting...hold on. No, it does not, unless that landscape thingy with the cloud hovering over the mountain is it. Actually, I have read that using that setting when taking window shots is helpful. Perhaps using your cloudy day setting would work on sunny window pictures, too. Lovely photos no matter what setting you used, Kim. You have some wonderful plants at your house and the magnolia is magnificent.

  6. I think I take my best pictures of flowers when it's cloudy! Yours are gorgeous, and I especially like the one of the magnolia bud. Rainy day here, so I thought it was the perfect day to do some planting! Nothing like good old rain to get the plants started right!

  11. We're having another rainy '50's day here in central Illinois. I don't mind; it beats the heat in Texas! I picked up some meracid to put on my hydrangeas to see if they will bloom like yours. The bush is gorgeous and green, but it never has bloomed. It came from a neighbors collection which boasted beautiful flowers four years ago. I have even moved it to a sunnier location to encourage it, bless it's heart. I guess I'll pray over it; it's the only thing I haven't done!

  17. I love my flowers on cloudy days, too! It's been raining like the Monsoons here in Ohio, and I'm so glad to sit at our dinner table, and still see the beautiful colors in the garden - in spite of the clouds. Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing!
