Rolling Out the Welcome Mat for October

Somehow, when I wasn't looking, September gave way to October.

So, I thought it was high time that I gave a proper Welcome to the beautiful month of October.

I stopped at the local garden center yesterday to see what I could find to give my front entrance a "freshened up for fall" look.  I couldn't resist this big orange pumpkin with a hint of green and the smaller white one.  I liked the idea of an ornamental kale for color and texture and added the narrow shrub in the back for more texture and height.

I found a tray of nine little mums at Lowe's.
They have been the perfect size to tuck in here and there in my fall containers.

I added another mum and my little trick or treater to the other side of the doorway, a wreath on the door . . .

a few baby pumpkins lined up across the railing (we buy these in bags like potatoes come in at BJs) and I think it's safe to say we're ready to welcome October.  The weather is cooling down and it's time for sipping cider on the front porch.

~ Welcome October, so glad to see you again ~

  2. Your yellow mums add the perfect "welcome" to your porch, as does the lined little pumpkins. I never thought of doing that and it hads a nice fall touch. I can imagine lots of people would love to sit on that porch and drink cider with you. I know I would. I agree with you in that time is just flying.

  3. Lovely, Kim. Your entrance to your home is beautiful. I am worried about pumpkins here, too many kids and they like to smash them in the street! xo

  17. And a warm welcome it is at your front door! I just adore your little Trick or Treater. Where on earth did you find him?

My mums are already looking tired and worn. *sigh* I have a Halloween high tea party at the end of the month but will have to replace them by then. I cannot seem to keep them long enough.
