This Week In My Kitchen

I'm joining in for Heather's In The Kitchen::Blog Hop once again this week.

~ Quinoa salads are new to me.  Cilantro and kale coincided in the garden this week making me want to try this recipe.  We are now instant converts.  Oh my goodness is this delicious (& nutritious).
A wonderful new recipe for summertime.
There seem to be two camps when it comes to cilantro... those who love it (raising my hand) and those who detest it.  If you love it and decide to make this salad, be sure to add plenty as it makes a very lovely addition.

~ The earliest hydrangeas coincided with an estate sale pitcher making a pretty centerpiece for the kitchen table.

~ Seems like the first thing I do when I begin food preparation is to remove my rings and wash my hands.
A few too many frozen bananas prompted an afternoon spent making banana muffins.  I added a few walnuts and a few chocolate chips.
Just right with a cup of tea and some time spent perusing cookbooks.

~ I was inspired to make granola after seeing it on someone else's post.
So nice with Greek yogurt, honey and fresh berries.

If you could use some kitchen inspiration, hop on over to Heather's or better yet, come join in the fun.

  3. I have been on a quinoa kick lately so I am looking forward to trying your salad. I love cilantro and made sure I had plenty of it growing in the herb bed this year.

  4. We love quinoa but only one of us loves cilantro. The other member of this household detests it greatly. But I chop a bunch and add it to my own plate.
A lot of good cooking and eating went on in your kitchen this week. Love the hydrangeas in the pitcher.

  5. Everything looks so delicious! I love the aroma of baking granola. I should do that today. It's plenty cold enough. The pitcher is perfection for a bouquet of garden posies!

  8. Everything looks yum! I used to be a hater of cilantro or coriander as we call it. I detested it with a passion. I'm not too sure what happened, but I now love the stuff and can't get enough of it. Going to try the quinoa salad for sure this weekend.

  10. It all looks so good. I love cilantro!!! My husband recently made me a sandwich and used cilantro, it was wonderful. I had never thought to use it other than in salsa. I also have the same book: Kitchen Gardens. I love the illustrations by Tasha Tudor.

  13. Thanks for sharing the quinoa recipe... I just love fresh quinoa salads for summer. And as for cilantro... firmly in the love camp, everything is better with cilantro!

  14. I, too, Kim love white quinoa. Your salad looks delicious. And the kale from your garden looks so people friendly. I've been doing a lot of juicing with kale. coriander, parsley and many other vegetables. I don't have my own garden, so I am bound to what the grocery store offers. But fresh is best, and I'm enjoying the benefits of veggies more.

    Blessings,
    Marianne

  18. My husband loves cilantro, I have always hated it but I am learning that it adds a je ne sai qoi to many things and I can appreciate that. I read in a National G several years ago that liking or disliking cilantro is genetic. For some people (myself included) the enzymes in our mouths make cilantro taste metallic and soapy. So there. Its not our fault. :)
I am also learning on the quinoa salad. I've learned that you need no more than 50% quinoa to 50% everything else or it is too much. Fresh parsley is a great stand in for cilantro. I made one this week with asparagus, cucumber, tomato, feta, parsley and oil & vinegar. Lovely post!

  19. Quinoa is new to me too. I haven't found a recipe that "wows" me... but I have found a couple that are okay. I'm going to try Amanda's suggestion of half quinoa and half other ingredients. Your muffins look delicious and I love your flowers!

  20. Healthy, fresh looking food always gets my attention, and this is no exception. I am not a cilantro fan, but I do really like quinoa, and I must try this dish. I smiled when I saw the ring dish, because you can even
make that item look good. Your muffins make me want to go get my bananas out of the freezer. As always, great pictures!

I hope you have a relaxing and enjoyable Memorial Day!
