Baking Up an Easter Craft

I did a bit of baking yesterday.  It was so much fun rolling and cutting out these spring themed cookies.
But, I wouldn't recommend eating them unless you are partial to hard, salty cookies.

You see these aren't real cookies, they are Salt Dough Bowl Fillers.  The credit for this fun project goes to Colleen at And Baby Makes Five.  I recently stumbled upon her blog and fell in love with her bowl fillers.  She has made them for many different seasons & holidays and kindly provides tutorials on her sidebar.

I was the only one home yesterday.  No dinner deadlines or schedules to be kept, so I put on some music, lit a honeysuckle scented candle and started playing.

It was so fun, relaxing and I might even say it was down right therapeutic.

Soon it will be time to start my Easter decorating.  I think these will be fun to incorporate into the decor.

Thank you Colleen for this fun idea!!

  1. These are beautiful! I've made Halloween and Christmas salt dough crafts (found under 'crafts' in my blog). I don't know why I haven't thought of Easter ones. Thanks for the idea.

  4. I too found Colleen's blog and fell in love with her salt dough ornaments! Yours turned out beautifully! Like Colleen, you have quite an artistic flair. I made heart fillers for Valentine's day after seeing them on her site. They're all painted very basic barn red...but I loved making them. You're right...definitely therapeutic. = ) Thanks for sharing. It will definitely enhance your Easter decor.

    Blessings,

  10. What a great idea. I used a similar dough some years back to make gingerbread people that lasted quite awhile. These are adorable. I also became a follower of that blog:) The first thing I saw was a recipe for my favorite 'gnocchi soup' from Olive Garden. I had to have that!
You did a great job on your painting and decorating. You have a 'Spring' flair. Good idea!

  18. Kim,
They turned out so cute! I haven't worked with salt Dough for years, but we 5 of our grandluvs are coming to stay the week before Easter. My older granddaughters (ages 10-7) would enjoy making these with me. I am going to check out her recipe! Thanks!
